The Story Behind the Song

Fall and Fly was written during a summer vacation and came together unusually quickly.

The initial spark came from a conversation about modern dating and the frustration of searching for something genuine in a world where many people seem to be looking for something else entirely. That idea lingered long after the conversation ended, and by the time I got home later that afternoon, the lyrics began to take shape.

At the same time, the song drew on memories from an earlier chapter of life. There comes a point where many of the people around you begin settling down, building families and moving into a different phase of adulthood. Yet not everyone arrives there at the same time. Part of the inspiration behind Fall and Fly came from remembering what it felt like to still be searching for connection while watching others seemingly find what they were looking for.

Those two experiences naturally came together. The song became less about modern dating itself and more about the longing for something real, balanced against the fear of getting hurt again. Even so, it refuses to become cynical. Instead, it holds on to the belief that love, connection and belonging are still worth pursuing.

Looking back, I also see an interesting paradox in the song. The same longing that inspires us to open our hearts can sometimes lead us into situations that aren't right for us. The desire for connection can be a source of hope, but it can also cloud our judgment. In that sense, Fall and Fly captures the optimism that often comes before the lessons explored in later songs like Never Meant To Be.

At its core, Fall and Fly is about choosing hope, even when experience tells you to be careful. Sometimes the courage to fall in love again isn't believing you'll never get hurt — it's believing that the possibility of something real is still worth the risk.
