Story Behind the Song

Weightless is where the Fredlite journey began.

Back in 2021, after many years away from producing music, I had fallen in love with trance all over again — particularly the vocal side of the genre. Artists like Christina Novelli showed me that trance could be more than uplifting melodies and club energy. It could tell stories, explore emotions, and leave a lasting impression long after the music stopped.

Ironically, I wasn't yet convinced there was room for my own stories.

Most of the lyrics I was writing at the time felt too introspective, too personal, and far too direct for what I believed trance music was supposed to be. Instead, I deliberately chose something lighter. If I was going to write a trance song, I thought it should capture the euphoria of the dancefloor: two strangers finding each other in a crowded club, the outside world fading away as attraction takes over, and the feeling that, for just a few moments, nothing else exists.

That idea became Weightless.

To bring the song to life, I hired a vocalist on Fiverr to record the lead vocals. After so many years away from making music, hearing someone else bring my lyrics to life was an unforgettable moment. More than anything, it gave me the confidence to believe that this project might actually become something real.

Looking back today, I hear a producer who was still finding his way. The production lacks much of the depth and polish that would come later, but it also captures something that can never be recreated: the excitement of starting over, the freedom of experimenting without expectations, and the pride of finally releasing a song after such a long break from music.

In many ways, Weightless also represents an interesting turning point. I believed I had to simplify my writing to fit the genre, when in reality the opposite would eventually prove true. The deeply personal lyrics I initially kept to myself would go on to become one of the defining characteristics of the Fredlite project.

At its heart, Weightless is about the intoxicating feeling of human connection. The moment two people lock eyes across a crowded room, everything around them seems to disappear, and for a little while the ordinary rules of life no longer apply. Whether that feeling lasts a lifetime or only until the lights come on almost doesn't matter. For those few moments, the world feels beautifully Weightless.
