The Story Behind the Song

Following Racing Heart and its unexpected jazz detour, I found myself stuck in another creative dry spell.

Musically, ideas still came easily enough. I had written a piano melody that immediately felt worth pursuing, and before long it grew into what would become Millennium. The real struggle was the lyrics. Every draft I wrote felt full of clichés, and nothing seemed genuine enough to build a vocal song around. In the end, I decided to let the music tell the story on its own.

By this point, I had begun assembling a production palette that felt increasingly like my own. One of my favorite discoveries was a realistic acoustic guitar instrument that added subtle strummed textures beneath the piano. It wasn't an obvious part of the arrangement, but it glued everything together in a way that made the track feel warmer and more organic.

As the production evolved, I found myself thinking about the years surrounding the turn of the millennium. Despite all the panic over Y2K, the new century had begun with a remarkable sense of optimism. Technology promised a brighter future, globalization seemed unstoppable, and for many of us, major war felt like something that belonged to history books rather than the evening news.

Looking back, those assumptions feel almost painfully naïve.

The contrast between the song's bittersweet melody and its uplifting energy gradually came to represent that feeling for me. On the surface, everything sounds hopeful, yet there's a quiet melancholy running underneath — as if the optimism already knew it wouldn't last forever.

That idea also shaped the visual identity of the release. I chose Dubai as the backdrop for the artwork and promotional videos. To me, it represented the contrast I was trying to capture: breathtaking ambition on the surface, yet a quiet reminder that even the greatest civilizations are more fragile than we like to believe. It wasn't intended as a political statement so much as a symbol of how appearances and reality rarely tell the same story.

Today, Millennium feels like a snapshot of an outlook that has largely disappeared. The future once seemed inevitable, almost guaranteed to be better than the present. A few decades later, that confidence feels much harder to find.

At its core, Millennium is about optimism — not the naïve belief that everything will always work out, but the fragile hope that keeps us building tomorrow, even when history repeatedly reminds us how uncertain it really is.
