Story Behind the Song
Frontiers began with a handful of piano melodies that appeared during a summer writing session.
At the time, I had been working on a Balearic trance-inspired instrumental and knew it needed a strong melodic identity. The piano ideas arrived almost fully formed and immediately felt like they belonged together. From there, the track gradually grew around them.
Around the same time, my wife had rediscovered Moby's albums Play and 18, and I found myself drawn to the way those records used vocal textures to create atmosphere and emotion without relying on traditional lyrics. That influence led me to experiment with wordless vocal elements, eventually combining ethereal vocal phrases with chant-like motifs that became a defining part of the track's identity.
As the arrangement developed, contrasting elements began to emerge. Soft, expressive vocal passages were paired with bold, powerful chord stabs that gave the track a sense of momentum and determination. The result was a balance between vulnerability and strength, reflection and forward motion.
The title Frontiers came from the feeling that gradually revealed itself through the music. To me, the track evokes the moment when a long struggle finally begins to pay off. The point where exhaustion gives way to hope, and where the finish line — once invisible — suddenly comes into view.
While developing the track, I often imagined pioneers crossing unfamiliar territory in search of something better on the horizon. Not because the song is literally about exploration, but because that image perfectly captured the emotional core of the music: perseverance, uncertainty, and the belief that something worthwhile lies just beyond the next ridge.
That same idea inspired the visual direction of the release. The artwork, featuring the dramatic landscapes of Norway's Lofoten Islands, captured the feeling of standing at the edge of something vast and unexplored — a place where hardship and possibility exist side by side.
At its heart, Frontiers is about persistence. It is about continuing forward when progress feels slow, trusting that the effort will eventually lead somewhere worthwhile, and experiencing the moment when the horizon finally begins to open up before you.
