The Story Behind the Song

A year after the release of Frontiers, the song unexpectedly found a new life.

During the summer of 2024, I received a message on Instagram from DJ Abouzar, one half of the trance duo Pittarius Code. He had discovered Frontiers and was interested in creating his own interpretation of the track. Having never received a remix request before, it was an easy decision to say yes.

While the original version of Frontiers was built around Balearic influences, atmospheric vocals, and a sense of gradual discovery, the remix took the song in a different direction. Pittarius Code dialed back some of the piano and vocal elements, shifting the focus toward a darker, more trance-oriented sound. The result was a version that felt familiar yet distinct, preserving the emotional core of the original while bringing a new sense of intensity and momentum.

One of the most enjoyable aspects of the project was hearing familiar musical ideas transformed through someone else's creative perspective. The melodies and atmosphere remained recognizable, but the track developed an identity entirely its own.

The timing of the release also coincided with a family trip to Iceland. Surrounded by volcanic landscapes, dramatic coastlines, and endless horizons, it felt fitting to draw inspiration from that environment when selecting artwork for the release. The scenery echoed many of the same feelings that had inspired the original Frontiers — exploration, possibility, and the sense of standing at the edge of something larger than yourself.

The remix also introduced the song to a much wider audience. By the time of its release, the Fredlite project had grown considerably compared to the previous year, and combined with Pittarius Code's audience, the track reached listeners far beyond those who had discovered the original version. The remix went on to outperform the original release, accumulating more than 50,000 streams and receiving radio support around the world.

While the remix tells no new story, it represents an important milestone in the journey of the song. What began as a handful of piano melodies during a summer writing session had now taken on a second life through another artist's perspective.

In that sense, the remix became its own kind of frontier — proof that a piece of music can continue evolving long after its original form has been completed.
