The Story Behind the Song

In many ways, My Goodbye feels like the natural continuation of Chasing Illusions.

If that song explored the temptation to ignore reality, this one begins at the moment when denial is no longer possible.

The initial spark came from an unexpected conversation with a friend. She told me about ending a relationship after another woman showed up outside her home, banging on the door and demanding to speak to the man inside. It was one of those stories that instantly paints a scene in your mind. Almost immediately, the chorus appeared:

"Get out of here...
I'm better off alone..."

Once those lines were there, the rest of the song came surprisingly quickly.

The lyrics explore the moment when repeated betrayals finally outweigh the fear of walking away. It's no longer about discovering the truth. It's about accepting it. Every excuse has run out. Every promise has been broken. All that's left is the decision to reclaim your own life.

Visually, the song continued down the path that Chasing Illusions had begun. The warm sunsets and scenic landscapes of earlier releases gave way to rain-soaked streets, blurred reflections, and colder city nights. Looking back, I realize this wasn't really a new direction at all. It was simply the first time I allowed Fredlite to look the way it had always felt to me.

For a long time, I'd assumed that this darker, more cinematic aesthetic had no place in trance music. It seemed too introspective, too moody, and too far removed from the bright optimism I associated with the genre.

But I wasn't trying to make music that looked like trance.

I was trying to make music that looked like me.

One unexpected moment came on release day. I uploaded the cover artwork to TikTok with the caption, "This is My Goodbye." The platform immediately removed the post, apparently interpreting it as something far more serious than a song announcement. After a brief moment of confusion, I reposted it with the slightly more reassuring caption, "This is my new single, My Goodbye," and everything worked as intended.

Musically, the song continued refining the sound that had begun to emerge on Chasing Illusions. Elin's vocal carries both the exhaustion and the quiet determination at the heart of the lyric, transforming what could have been a song about heartbreak into something that ultimately feels liberating.

At its core, My Goodbye is about the moment when self-respect finally becomes stronger than hope. There comes a point when leaving isn't an act of anger or revenge. It's simply the moment you stop negotiating with a reality you've known all along.

Lyrics

My Goodbye

I've been trying
For far too long
Don't you think I know
What's going on
Another day
Another lie
This is the end
This is my goodbye
Bye bye

Get out of here
I'm better off alone
I'm better off
Just living on my own
Can't take another day
Can't take another lie
It's time for me to live
To live my life
To live my life

All those broken
Promises
Business trips
Conferences
All those late nights
Working overtime
This is the end
This is my goodbye
Bye bye

Get out of here
I'm better off alone
I'm better off
Just living on my own
Can't take another day
Can't take another lie
It's time for me to live
To live my life
To live my life

Another day
Another lie
This is the end
This is my goodbye
Bye bye

Get out of here
I'm better off alone
I'm better off
Just living on my own
Can't take another day
Can't take another lie
It's time for me to live
To live my life
To live my life
