The Story Behind the Song

Sunset Serenade is one of those songs I never expected to revisit.

The original was released in 2022, not long after I returned to making music after more than twenty years away. At the time, I was still figuring out what Fredlite was supposed to sound like. Looking back, though, I can hear ideas in Sunset Serenade that have followed me ever since: nostalgia, escapism, and that bittersweet feeling that the best moments in life are often the ones you already know won't last.

The song was always about more than a sunset. To me, it captures that particular feeling of a summer evening when the day is ending but the night hasn't really begun. For a little while, normal life seems suspended. There's nowhere you have to be, tomorrow feels far away, and almost anything seems possible.

Four years later, my buddy Abou from Pittarius Code gave the track an entirely new life.

Rather than simply putting a bigger beat underneath the original, he found the trance track that had apparently been hiding inside it all along. The remix stretches beyond seven minutes, takes its time building, and gives the melodies room to breathe. Hearing it for the first time was strangely familiar and completely new at the same time.

There's something special about returning to music you made years ago. Songs become snapshots of who you were at a particular moment, and revisiting them can sometimes feel like meeting an earlier version of yourself.

In this case, it felt less like revisiting an old song and more like meeting an earlier version of myself — and discovering that we still had very much in common.
