The Story Behind the Song

You Are The One is one of the most personal songs I've written.

Unlike many of my later releases, which explore broader themes through fictional or symbolic storytelling, this song began as a genuine declaration of love. Written for my wife, it captures the feeling of finding the person who makes the rest of the world fade into the background — the one who feels like home, even as life continues to change around you.

The lyrics embrace both the joy and the vulnerability that come with committing yourself completely to another person. Rather than presenting love as something effortless, the song acknowledges that the strongest relationships are built through trust, perseverance, and the willingness to choose each other again and again.

Musically, the original release reflects a period when I was still exploring and shaping the Fredlite sound. The production combines melodic trance influences with dance-pop elements, balancing uplifting energy with an emotional core that would later become a defining characteristic of the project.

Looking back, it's interesting to see how the song has continued to live beyond its original release. I later recorded a piano-only version for Hurt, Dirt, and Healing Hearts, allowing the melody and lyrics to stand on their own without the electronic production surrounding them.

One of the most meaningful moments in the song's journey came when I learned that the piano version had been chosen to accompany a couple as they renewed their wedding vows. Knowing that a song written as a personal expression of love became part of someone else's story is one of the greatest compliments a songwriter can receive.

At its heart, You Are The One is about recognizing the person who makes life's uncertainties feel a little less overwhelming. Unlike many of my other songs, it doesn't search for answers or work its way toward hope. It begins there. Sometimes love isn't about finding someone new—it's about realizing the person you've been looking for has been beside you all along.
